CoolDesk 3

In a day and age where systems come with hundreds of megabytes of memory, massive hard drives and super fast processors it seems silly to limit yourself by the confines of just a single desktop. Multi monitors is an option but not everyone has a desk large enough or a spare graphics card, so the next best thing is to use a virtual desktop manager. Cool Desk is just that a virtual desktop manager and lets you create up to nine new virtual desktops.

Cool Desk is flexible enough that you can choose exactly what you want to appear on each desktop. It’s possible to have individual wallpaper, icons and applications specific to each virtual desktop you run. Two windows make it easy to manage your virtual desktop, one lets you move applications between virtual desktops and a desktop window lets you jump to whichever desktop you like. Unlike many other virtual desktop managers Cool Desk is fast and you won’t find any slow down when running multiple desktop or when you switch between your various desktops.

To make Cool Desk a little friendlier it’s fully skinnable and comes with a default Windows XP look-a-like, though more can be downloaded. The interface can be used stacked either horizontally or vertically depending on which more suites you best. When running applications use the windows manager at the top of the desktop to move and control running applications and other open windows. Just install the program from the SuperDisc and away you go!

Access Folders 1.5

Windows' Explorer is a useful tool for navigating the contents of your hard drive, but when it comes to accessing your favourite folders, it can be found wanting. Access Folders is a Windows add-on that integrates fully with the Save As and Open dialogue boxes of all your programs. Using this program you no longer have to drill down through several folders to save or open files from a particular location. If there are folders you use most often you can create 'bookmarks' to allow you to reach them faster.

To add your favourite folders to Access Folders' list, select the Add Folder option from the right click menu of the system tray icon. You can then use the familiar Explorer-style system to select your folders one at a time. To access these folders in the future, simply right click on the question mark icon that appears in all Save As/Open Dialogue boxes and select your desired folder from the menu that appears.
